IN MEMORIAM: WINFREY P. BLACKBURN, JR.

Winfrey P. Blackburn, Jr., founding member of Blackburn, Domene and Burchett, passed away on Saturday, September 16, 2023, after a battle with esophageal cancer.

Winfrey earned a BA in English and a JD from the University of Virginia.

In 1995, Winfrey, Thomas Hundley, and David Domene opened Blackburn, Hundley and Domene. Tom later left the firm, yet he and Winfrey remained close friends. The firm became known as Blackburn, Domene and Burchett after Doug Burchett joined the partnership.

A true Renaissance man, Winfrey embraced a lifelong love of learning. In addition to his respected legal career, Winfrey was known for his musical talent, his love of art and history, his passion for volunteering on many boards, and his writing ability, which he expressed through his authorship of several children’s books as well as books about Kentucky architecture.

Winfrey was an amazing attorney, colleague, business partner, mentor, and, most importantly, friend to all those who had the honor to work with him. He will be greatly missed.
